LI: To evaluate peer pressure, digital interactions and social influences.

In a world full of followers and influencers, it’s easy to feel like you’re just drifting along with the crowd. Everywhere you look, someone is telling you what to wear, what to like, or how to act. But we took a closer look at how to break away from that “auto-pilot” mode. Instead of just watching someone else’s highlight reel, we learned how to grab the map and become the Navigator of our own lives.

Being a Navigator means you’re the one making the big decisions. It’s about knowing your own values and choosing your own path, even if it doesn’t lead where everyone else is going. We explored how to trust our own compass, deal with the “stormy weather” of peer pressure, and keep steering toward the things that actually matter to us.

Ultimately, we discovered that you don’t need a million followers to be a leader. You just need the courage to stay at the wheel. When you are the Navigator, you aren’t just a passenger in your own story you’re the captain, the explorer, and the boss of your own future.

Mary Anning by Amorangi and Armani

 

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we took part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century. Something I learnt was that Mary Anning was the first to complete the skeleton of an Plesiosaurus and an Ichthyosaurus , she was 23 years old when she discovered the Plesiosaurus and 12 years old for Ichthyosaurus.

 

Research Challenge by Daniel P, Loa and Malosi

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs.
My partner and I found the skeleton of a Beachiosaurus.

Thought out our research we have learnt many facts about the Brachiosaurus one of them being:

  • The name Brachiosaurus comes from the Greek language which means arm and lizard.

Something I found interesting was that the Brachiosaurus front legs where way bigger and stronger then its back legs which was the main support due to the ohw heavy the chest and the neck of the Brachiosaurus.

RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers by Loa

  • LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

We read the text RISE UP: The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers and created a DLO that explores and discusses both perspectives of this historical event in our groups. Something I found interesting about this text was the Goverment was the person who looked for Pacfic for help with work and extended their time in New Zealand, but soon after he allowed dawn raids to get rid of them, isn’t that cruel?

Paired Research Challenge… Kendric and Vili

 

For this task LS2 have been working about dinosaurs, my teacher Mrs Anderson bought some dinosaur skeletons and helped us make our own dinosaur eggs and we had to wait two weeks to break them open. After two weeks LS2 broke open the eggs and everyone got different types of dinosaurs, this task included partners. The dinosaur me and my partner Vili got was a parasaurolopus. The parasaurolopus was a dinosaur with a long hollow crest on its head which the parasaurolophus can use to communicate. Me and Vili created a Google video and it was about the parasaurolophus.

LI: To Imply and justify an opinion

We explored what a provocation is and why it is important to have an informed opinion when sharing our perspectives. Our provocation was ‘Should the Government of today (2021) have apologised for the dawn raids of yesterday (970s)?’

In the past starting  around 1970’s  the politicians and immigrant officials were running out of money, they would’ve had to take the Polynesians and Pacifica people out of their homes if they had no identical proof and sent them to a country in the islands, this caused a public outcry and the Polynesians they formed group of people that protested against the dawn raids, their name was the Polynesian Panthers and this went on for a while, the Polynesian’s did dawn raids on the politicians around 3am 2 hours before the real dawn raids started.

In our opinion we agreed that it was a good option because of them apologising behalf of the government it shows they acknowledge the past and they understand that it was a stain on the history of NZ and how they didn’t treat the Pacifica right throughout their life and that it was wrong for yesterdays (1970’s) government to have create these dawn raids.

Fossils by Jenesis

LI: To understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.
LI: To recognise different types of fossils and how they are formed.

Our challenge was to create a Google Draw that shows clearly labelled  examples of each fossil type. Something I found interesting was how much paleontologists take as much interest in dinosaur diets as they do.

 

 

Dinosaur Egg by Iki

Our challenge was to become a palaeontologist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image. My partner and I found the skeleton of a Brontosaurus. What I found Interesting was how its tail help the Brontosaurus walk even with its long neck. This task was fun because how fun it was doing the AI.

Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum by Haloti and Jeremiah

Today’s inquiry learning activity took place at a trip to the Auckland Museum. The reason was because we were learning about making wise choices when a volcanic eruption happens. The main point of the challenge was that, me and my group had 30 seconds to pack everything that we would need in order to survive a volcanic eruption. The items that were there to pack were, toys, can of food, hole punch, torch, can opener,  pan, gloves, cat, muesli bar, cat food, goggles, bottle of water, tea towel, first aid kit, mask and colouring book. The goal was to evacute safely along with the items we need, and to survive the volcanic eruption in 30 seconds.

I found this activity pretty challenging and interesting because when me and my group attended this challenge, we practically packed every single item that was there.
