Dinosaur Egg by Fern

Our challenge was to become a palaeontologist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image. My partner and I found the skeleton of a Pterodactyl. One interesting fact I found about the Pterodactyl is that its wings are not actually covered with feathers its actually covered with its skin. This task was fun because we could collaborate with each other but not only learning about dinosaurs, Fossils but it can show us how important it was back then and it shows that we can change everyone’s perspectives through Fossils.

AI Movie by Easton

LI: Use AI to create a movie about an extinct dinosaur. Consisit of the habitats, diet, predators, and protection. This week for Inquiry I created an AI movie about a dinosaur known as the Pachycephalasauras.

I started my task with using notes from a previous reasearch project I had made the day before. I used them to make the AI start the video in time order, I made the notes in time order on purpose. It started with the habitat (where the din0saur lives) I asked the AI to create a video of the Pachysauras to walk through the habitats they live in.

Next, I asked for another video, as the AI I use is only capable of creating 6 second videos without pro. I asked for a video of the dinosaur eating some plants for the diet, as the Pachysauras is a herbivor. It gave me a very realistic video due to the prompt.

For the last part of my blog I created a final video of the Pachysauras fighting off potential threats with the skull of it. (My dinosaur is known for headbutting)

Paired Research Challenge… Darius and Zahra

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs. My partner and I found the skeleton of a Pachycephalosaurus.

And one fact about the Pachycephalosaurus is that the predator for the Pachycephalosaurus was the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Something I found interesting was that the Pachycephalosaurus was a “Herbivore” ( “Herbivore” means “ An animal / dinosaur only eats plants”.)

LI: To use our knowledge about dinosaurs in creative ways

For our Dinosaur Inquiry, LS2 were tasked to make a dinosaur video by using Hailuo AI.

I created a Brachiosaurus fighting a T rex by stomping at it and my video is only 9 seconds long.

Mary Anning by Marwan

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century

Something I learnt from this task was that Mary Anning’s first fossil was a rare dinosaur and she found it at the age of 12 with her brother.

LS2’s Tamaki River Hikoi

Today we learnt that you can tell a story through a series of images. The challenge was to reflect the story of our walk along the Tamaki River pathway using a selection of photos arranged in sequential order. To do this effectively we needed to think about cropping and resizing images.

Kauri Dieback by Beniz and Angie

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads.

For this assignment, Beniz and Angie used their smart searching skills to understand what kauri dieback is and how to prevent it from spreading.

Kauri dieback is a disease that has the potential to kill Kauri trees. Unfortunately, there is no known solution to this issue.  When a Kauri tree have the Kauri Dieback. The disease starves the tree and kills it. When a tree die and fallen, the disease can spread to other trees nearby. Did you know that kauri dieback is something that can be carried by humans and then spread to the trees? So, next time you go to a Kauri forest, remember to clean your shoes before going in.

Beniz and Angie enjoyed this activity because it introduced them to new things.

Who was Samuel Marsden? by Angie

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

For this assignment, Angie used her smart searching skills to create a information paragraph about Samuel Marsden. Samuel Marsden was a priest in the Church of England. He arrived in the Bay of Islands in 1814, during a journey that also included Ruatara. Marsden established the first Christian mission in New Zealand in 1814.

Angie found this activity challenging as it she got challenged to learn facts all together about Samuel Marsden, but enjoyed it because she learned something new.
